Maybe it’s from all the years as kids counting down to the last day of school. Perhaps it’s from enduring a winter that seemed like it would never end. Or it could be due to all the joy that summer promises. Whatever the reason, there’s something special — and even essential — about June.
The month marks the start of slightly less structure, even if our days are no longer spent zipping through the neighborhood on bikes and getting rugburns from the slip-n-slide. While we realize it’s impossible to shake off all responsibility, June is the perfect time and Wisconsin is the ideal place to shift into a slower pace.
This month, we’re intentionally choosing the easy and pleasant route whenever possible.
Morning sunshine with our coffee. Windows wide open whenever possible. Sandals instead of sneakers.
Juicy, fresh strawberries. Veggies from the garden. Ice cream that smears all over smiles.
Wagons, strollers and piggybacks in place of the car. Bare feet in the grass. Hopscotch on the driveway. Cannonballs into the pool. Walks just because.
Last-minute texts to come over to grill out for dinner. Twilight baseball games. Watching for stars and fireflies to come out at night.
Less pressure and fewer commitments — other than promising to make this a summer full of simple pleasures.
