You know those days where you’re kind of rocking it as an adult? There’s gas in the car and food in the fridge, the laundry’s actually folded and your kids are bathed and dressed. You get a little pep in your step because you finally feel slightly prepared for the day ahead.
And while it’s awesome to be a wonderfully responsible parent, do you ever forget to have fun?
Fun is worth making time for — even at the expense of productivity. And especially at the expense of perfection.
Every once in a while, let the duties wait. Instead of to-dos, prioritize silliness and laughter.
Dance parties and tickle fights. Trips to the park where you race your kids across the monkey bars instead of watching them from the bench. Art projects that create more sticky, glittery mess than actual art.
It hardly matters exactly what you do. The point is to let everyone off the hook to let loose.
After all, childhood is short — for your kids and you.
Your kids probably won’t recall the million things you did for them on a daily basis, but they likely won’t forget how good you were at building couch-cushion forts, your epic pillow-fighting skills, the silly smiles that always made them cackle or that time you swooshed head-first down the big slide.
They’ll remember the fun. If you remember to have it.
